Chapter 2 takes Aerin and LOR onto the surface of the cell. They know they must deal with the cancer before the cell divides and the cancer spreads out of control. They must find a way to get inside the cell.
Aerin manages to crash land the escape pod on the surface of the cell. Emerging from the wrecked pod, Aerin and LOR encounter proteins that are cleaning up the surface of the cell. Not recognizing the nanobots as allies, the proteins see them as threats to the body and attack.
Searching for a strategy to enter the cell, LOR briefs Aerin on active and passive transport. They conclude that they must use active transport to enter the cell.
They find a transport protein, but their attempt to enter the cell is unsuccessful. LOR’s database indicates that active transport must be powered by energy (ATP).
